How to Hide Files Without
an Internet Connection
Privacy should not depend on a signal. Whether you are on a plane, in a hotel room with no Wi-Fi, or simply somewhere the internet cannot reach, your files should still be yours to protect.
Why offline privacy matters
Most privacy tools are built around the internet. They sync to a server, verify through a cloud account, or require a connection just to open. That means the moment you lose signal on a flight, in a remote area, crossing a border, or simply in a place where connectivity is unreliable, your tools stop working.
But the need to protect a file does not wait for a good signal. A document you need to secure before landing. A set of files you want to hide before handing your device to someone. A photo taken somewhere remote that should not sit unprotected in your camera roll until you find Wi-Fi.
The files are on your device. The protection should be too.
FileVeil processes everything locally on your device, in your browser. The internet was never part of hiding a file. With Pro and Pro+, even loading the app does not require a connection.
How FileVeil works without internet
When you use FileVeil, nothing about your files touches a server. The hiding happens in your browser, using your device's own processing. No file is sent anywhere. No connection is made. The output a cover file with your private files hidden inside, is downloaded directly to your device. When you extract hidden files, they are downloaded automatically. If your browser blocks automatic downloads, the extracted files remain available below the Extract button for manual download.
This is true whether you are online or offline. The difference with offline mode is that the app itself is cached on your device, so it loads and runs without needing to reach fileveil.com at all. Open your browser, open FileVeil, and everything works, no signal required.
You pick a cover file. You add the files you want to hide. You set a key. You download the result. The cover file still opens normally. Your hidden files are inside it, encrypted, invisible and none of it required the internet at any point.
Offline mode is available with FileVeil Pro and Pro+. Once the app has been loaded on your device at least once while online, it works fully without a connection from that point on.
Step by step
The process is identical to using FileVeil online, because the hiding itself has never required internet. The only difference is that the app runs from your device's cache instead of fetching from the server.
Load FileVeil while you still have connection
Open fileveil.com at least once while online. This caches the app on your device. From that point, it is available offline whenever you need it.
Go offline then open FileVeil
When you are without a connection, open your browser and go to fileveil.com. The cached version loads. Everything is available exactly as it was online.
Choose a cover file
Pick any ordinary file from your device, a photo, a video, a PDF, an audio clip to act as the container. It still opens normally after.
Add the files you want to hide
Select the files you want to keep private. Any type works, documents, photos, spreadsheets, audio, anything on your device.
Set a key (optional, but recommended)
Add a password to encrypt your hidden files before they go inside the cover. Without a key, anyone with FileVeil can extract them. With a key, only whoever knows it can.
Download and keep it on your device
Download the result. It looks exactly like the original cover file. Store it on your device, on a USB drive, or share it through any channel when you are ready. No upload happened at any point.
With Pro or Pro+, you can also extract hidden files without a connection. Load the cover file, enter the key, and your files come out, same name, same format, same content. No internet needed at any step.
Where this makes a difference
Every day, people find themselves in situations where they have files to protect but no reliable connection to fall back on.
